    How to reach Jaffna

    Jaffna is in Northern Sri Lanka and is connected by air, train, and road. Train seats are popular, so advance booking is strongly recommended.

    By Air

    Jaffna International Airport, Palaly (JAF) is the nearest airport, with direct flights from Chennai, India. Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo is Sri Lanka’s main international gateway.

    Daily intercity trains run between Colombo and Jaffna. Book in advance through Sri Lanka Railways seat reservation.

    • Hanthana: panoramic views near Kandy, with longer guided and shorter out-and-back routes; start early and prepare for leeches.
